1818-1830 (Bunsei era): Shokichi Yamanaka, an Omi merchant, started the sake brewing business in what is now Fujinomiya, and later established four breweries (Takasago, Tamasekai, Shoshaku, and Tagoura) around Fuji.
1929 (Showa 4): Masakichi Yamanaka's second son Hyouji splits the family and establishes Yamanaka Sake Brewery Joint Stock Company in Yokosuka, where the brewery is currently located.
