History

1818-1830 (Bunsei era)
Shokichi Yamanaka, an Omi merchant, started the sake brewing business in what is now Fujinomiya, and later established four breweries (Takasago, Tamasekai, Shoshaku, and Tagoura) around Fuji.
1929 (Showa 4)
Masakichi Yamanaka's second son Hyouji splits the family and establishes Yamanaka Sake Brewery Joint Stock Company in Yokosuka, where the brewery is currently located.
1986 (Showa 61)
Takashi Yamanaka II starts brewing "Aoi Tenka"
1986 (Showa 61)
"Aoi Tenka" wins the Gold Prize at the National Appraisal for the first time
1999 (Heisei 11)
